Midcentury Paul McCobb Contempri Red and White Covered Vegetable Bowl and Lid
This bowl is in very good/excellent vintage condition with some slight glazing on the bottom. It is 9.75" wide x 6" tall.
McCobb was one of the most prolific of the mid-century designers. His style was contemporary enough to be modern, but it never burst the bounds of middle-class respectability. While Heywood-Wakefield strayed into atomic-age fantasies, McCobb offered playful takes on traditional forms with hints of Scandinavian craftsmanship and International Style clarity.
McCobb (1917-1969) was trained as an artist in Boston and established himself as a furniture designer in New York by the late 1940's, just in time for the stampede to the suburbs, which meant thousands of new homes to be furnished. His new versions of traditional design were clean and spare enough to match the new informality of young families buying houses with G.I. loans, but were close enough to the originals to qualify as suburban "good taste."
